Why is skateboarding such a good hobby for younger kids to get into? There are many reasons for this, I am going to cover in my opinion why kids should take up in the sport of skateboarding. Some parents may be concerned about the safety factor. Sure a lot of skateboarders get hurt, especially those that are just trying to learn. But in all reality, what sport out there doesn’t involve a little bit of risk?
Reasons to Skateboard
Skateboarding is Great Exercise
It may not be the best sport in the world to get into shape, but skateboarding does tend to burn calories and build muscle, especially in the legs. One thing for sure, it is way better for your kid to be out skateboarding than it is for them to be sitting inside playing Call of Duty on the Xbox all night and day. Not only is skateboarding great exercise, it also builds up your hand, eye and leg coordination.
Meet New Friends
I remember when I was a kid on my cheap skateboard, I never had a problem making new friends. I know everyone at school that skateboarded, and I knew a lot of kids that went to schools around me that skateboarded. Let’s face it, nobody wants to skate alone. If your kid takes up skateboarding, he or she is not going to have any problem fitting in or making friends.
Skateboarding is Not a Crime
About 10 years ago when I was in the skateboard scene, me and my cheap skateboard setup would wreak havoc in the city. Grinding rails, curbs, jumping steps and so forth. Sure there is a lot of skateboarders out there that may cause a little property damage – but it’s keeping them from doing other crimes. Not only that, many cities have got smart, and skate parks have sky rocketed in the past few years.
Im not talking about the huge skate parks that you have to pay to get into, but many of the cities where I am from in Florida have skateparks that are all city funded. Another great place for young skateboarders to meet some friends.
